Fun with Couriers 18 October 2014

Every so often a server for which I'm responsible fails, and I get it shipped to me for fixing. Usually this works reasonably well.

Here's one of the two which arrived yesterday: so far so good.

And here's the other one.

Front grille missing, both rack ears badly bent, indentation in the lower corners... I know DHL is huge and so doesn't need to care about quality of service, but I can't help thinking they could try a little harder than simply being ready to slap some "repacked" tape on the corner of the box that they had smashed off.

(But the machine does still POST! I suspect the discs took the brunt of the blow, and most of them were failing already.)

    That's pretty major damage. It brings to mind the joke about the cheapest way to split the atom - send it in the post.
