2015 young adult science fiction, short story in the Earth Girl
setting. Drago Tell Dramis is a young pilot, in an awkward social
situation, and having to perform a desperate and dangerous mission.
If you've read the other short stories, you know a bit about the
big embarrassing incident in Drago's background, but here's it's all a
bit more new and raw. But if you've read the other short stories, you
already know the sort of thing to expect from this series anyway:
action sequences that largely work, but a focus on the people much
more than on the tech, and raw emotions rarely covered by anything
like adult sophistication.
There's nothing remarkably new here, but this got a separate release
rather than being included in the Earth 2788 short story collection,
presumably because it was written later. Good fun but not worth
seeking out (I assume it'll end up in an anthology later), and it
doesn't give much of an introduction to the universe either.
