Indie Boards and Cards 2014 kickstarters 23 July 2014

People who know me will be aware that I'm an enthusiastic player of several of the games published by Indie Boards and Cards. They currently have Kickstarter projects running for two of them.

First is Flash Point - Honor & Duty (renamed from Call of Duty after rumours of legal threat from the obvious party). This adds two new boards to Flash Point: Fire Rescue, an aircraft on the ground and an Underground station. I can now say that I've been involved with playtesting for both of these, and I'm enthusiastic about getting them in a professionally-produced form rather than my printed copy; the airfield map is very open once you get away from the plane, leading to fire that can rapidly get out of hand since it's not actually doing damage as it spreads, while the underground map restricts movement in new and interesting ways.

The Kickstarter bonus is a new role card (the Fire Prevention Officer, who can apparently move smoke and victims) and a new attic/basement map board; I don't know anything more about these. Ends on 31 July, and is already funded at the time of writing.

The other is The Resistance - Hostile Intent & Hidden Agenda, an expansion to The Resistance. Some of the content here converts in all the roles and abilities from The Resistance: Avalon, including its Excalibur and Lancelot promo cards, which is ideal for me since I prefer the dystopic SF trappings of The Resistance to the Arthurian fantasy of Avalon. Non-Avalon-derived new material includes the Hunter module, with each side trying to identify the opposition's leaders; the Reverser module, with the ability to change the results of a mission; and the Trapper module, in which one extra member is added to the mission team, but is carefully watched and cannot make the mission fail. (All that "module" talk suggests that the various optional rules are being organised into formal packages, which is something I think will benefit the game by adding clarity and avoiding unbalanced rule sets.)

The Kickstarter bonuses are the Rogue Agent (with a custom victory condition rather than wanting to see his own side win) and the Sergeant (with the ability to change mission results; I don't know how this overlaps with the Reverser). The only thing that's really missing is the Lovers, but I'm sure I can re-purpose other cards when I want to play a Lovers game.

This one ends on 9 August; it reached its funding goal before the first day was complete.

Of course in an ideal world I'd pick them both up at Essen rather than paying for postage, but I don't know yet whether I will be there this year…
