After a break thanks to Christmas scheduling clashes, back to the
boardgame café. With images;

everything.
First up was another go at
Race for the Galaxy,
which definitely worked better with three players than it had with
two. It still seems like a more complex game than it really is, and if
I bought it I'd definitely want to rewrite the rulebook.
I definitely had more fun this time, concentrating on building
mercantile assets, but still only came second. This is on my list
where Alien Frontiers was a while ago: another play and it may well
move to "want to buy".
Cosmic Encounter
next. Slightly worryingly, I've now played more games with the Thirsty
Meeples shop set than I have with my own. Ah well. Things went back
and forth fairly effectively, and as the Hacker I had fun with some
early negotiations but mostly waged a fairly conventional war until I
was in a position to knock out the enemy.
Finally a few quick games of
Timeline: Historical Events
to round off the evening. With three reasonably educated players it
was mostly a matter of which of us messed up first, and our last game
was perfect. (This is faintly reassuring, given how bad I was at
school history and the efforts I've made to fix this since.)
