Since this show was only a few miles from where I live, I thought I'd
drop in. Wycombe Warband, the club where I usually play, weren't
putting anything on, but there were many of the usual dealers and some
interesting demo games with emphasis on participation.
Steampunk machines, and non-steampunk trench sections and shell
craters, from
Ironclad Miniatures.
Some lovely industrial scenery from
Tablescape, as well as more
conventional WWII.
I didn't get these guys' name – Sergeants' Mess, maybe? – but I like
both the variety of models and the details.
Main hall, mostly dealers with some demo tables.
Second hall, more dealers plus bring-and-buy, which was almost
entirely miniatures.
Staines Wargamers were
running a card-driven Charge of the Light Brigade: rather than
shooting at the enemy, your job is to make sure your regiment gets
to the end of the valley first.
This is done by card play, which will variously let you advance your
own regiment (or send someone else's into danger), cause the enemy to
fire, etc. So in effect it's a bit like Steampunk Rally, a card game
with a race-style scoring mechanic.
We ended up with a three-way draw (out of five players), which
surprised me… as I'd been planning to make it happen on my turn.
