Akagami no Shirayukihime season 2 27 December 2016

2016 fantasy romance, shoujo manga continuation in 12 episodes as well as an OVA that bridges the two series: AniDB, vt "Snow White with the Red Hair". Shirayuki the herbalist continues to develop her low-key romance with Prince Zen.

The series continues in the same groove it previously established: Shirayuki gets into minor scrapes, and everybody loves her except Bad People (and one distinctly interesting character, Zen's elder brother Prince Izana, who probably doesn't actually object to her all that much but is brutally aware of what will happen to her if she tries to enter court social life without preparation).

There is definite progress through this series: Shirayuki and Zen both gradually gain confidence in themselves, and other people are starting to think of Zen as more than the fun-loving non-entity that he's seemed to be in the past. Of course, that's not entirely a good thing for him. And then, while on a visit to the neighbouring country where relations with Prince Raj might be usefully mended, Shirayuki is kidnapped… Adding peril to this very sweet tale is an odd combination, but it works, and shows that there's more to Shirayuki's skill set than being nice to people and knowing all about herbs.

The background music is sometimes too obviously repetitious, but this series continues to be a gentle and enjoyable slow burn of a story. Again, there's no real conclusion, and at the time of writing there is no word of a third season. (The manga is ongoing, having recently passed its tenth anniversary, so there's no shortage of material.)
