This group usually meets on Tuesday evenings, so although they're
fairly nearby I hadn't had a chance to join them before. But over the
Christmas holiday they met on a Friday afternoon as well.
Several of the group had wanted to try
Mysterium, so
I ran that.
Two players were still struggling on the last turn, but I ran the
endgame anyway (it seems no fun not to), and that was a comprehensive
success. I don't think any of the players will be rushing out to buy
this, but they did seem to enjoy it.
Then… I finally played a Ticket to Ride game, specifically the
Pennsylvania map.
Not sure quite how I've missed this one before, though I think its
early wave of popularity may have happened before I was really paying
attention to modern boardgames; it's not a game I'll rush out and buy,
but nor did I find it objectionable. I came last-but-one, which is
fair enough, since I'd concentrated on the core gameplay and not
worked hard enough at scoring shares as well.
They're a pleasant bunch of players, and next time
Whartson Hall
doesn't get together of a Tuesday I'll probably wander over again.
