Three boardgame kickstarters 04 August 2017

Here are three current boardgame kickstarters which interested me. Maybe they'll interest you. All offer shipping from within the EU.

Ending on 8 August, Who Goes There sits somewhere in the space between social deduction and cooperative survival. Yes, it's based on the Campbell story: you play a scientist at the Antarctic base, and maybe you've been infected and maybe you haven't. Can a social deduction game work with only three players? I'm intrigued; this looks as if it might scratch some of the same itch as Dead of Winter, only on a smaller scale and without zombies. (And in a smaller box…) But it's awfully expensive for what you get; maybe it's the miniatures that push the price up excessively.

Ending on 11 August, Star Realms Frontiers offers Star Realms the Hero Realms treatment, with a single box for up to four players. I already like the core game and Colony Wars, but I've barely played them; I don't get into two-player games as often as I'd like and the rules for higher player counts are cumbersome. This fixes that, and having more options is good.

Finally, ending on 17 August, Flash Point Tragic Events is not just another new map, but a deck of event cards that replaces the hot spot system (one of the more cumbersome mechanisms in the game). Two new specialist types are also included, as well as a miniature for the Fire Prevention Specialist who didn't get one before. There's other material too, but as a long-term player of and enthusiast for the game I've already got it.
