This
Meetup-based
boardgames group continues to meet at the Marlow Donkey.
We started this evening with
Mars Attacks: the Dice Game,
the first time I'd actually played it (it was one of the last games I
got from Warehouse 23 before shipping became prohibitively expensive).
It's fairly simple, and perhaps lasts a little too long with five
players, but as a slightly more sophisticated version of Zombie Dice
I think it works rather well.

We went on to
The Captain is Dead,
with the Admiral, Chief Engineer and Soldier. We lacked a Scientist,
but this was still a fairly effective combination, with the Admiral
cancelling alerts and being a general dogsbody, the Engineer working
on the jump core and the Soldier dealing with aliens.

At the other end of the table, they played
Zombicide Season 2 Prison Outbreak.
This ended at about the same time, which was unexpected but welcome.

Those of us who weren't having an early night finished off the evening
with
Pirate 21. I'm
getting increasingly fond of games like this, and Death Over the
Kingdom: small games that don't get a huge marketing push, won't
revolutionise the world of gaming, but are well-designed and fun to
play.

We've booked in for a longer session on new year's day…
