On the last day of the most recent isolation period, I went shopping.
It turns out there were two separate panics on at the same time.
No flour (except for cornflour and self-raising; nobody ever
seems to want self-raising). And a distinct shortage of toilet roll
too. Well, all right, Lidl
weren't doing as well as Morrison's (who'd only run out of their very
cheapest, but were rationing).
Have people finally noticed that many supply chains are simply going
to stop at the end of the year? It seems unlikely. And they aren't,
for example, clearing the shelves of chocolate bars or baked beans or
Spam.
I haven't heard about these shortages elsewhere, so perhaps it's a
purely local phenomenon…
Also it turns out the landlady of my excellent local pub has died. So
that's a bit of a facer.
