This Meetup-based
boardgames group remains on-line for the moment; as usual we got
together on Jitsi and then played some games on BGA.
First up, Railroad
Ink,
a recent addition to BGA played without expansions since we had a
first-time player. Good fun, though of course I missed the actual dice
rolling. More significantly, having everyone's score calculated
automatically and displayed turn by turn (rather than just once at the
end) made the game feel much more aggressive.
On to Cacao, one
of the "Carcassonne, but fun" games in my lexicon (the other being
Isle of Skye). It's altogether too easy accidentally to finish one's
turn without taking bonuses (i.e. I did this once). Still a good game,
still one I don't plan to buy, though I play it very occasionally on
Yucata.
Then Solar
Storm, a
cooperative game that may well have been inspired by Lux Aeterna
(which I picked up at Essen 2019 and have since traded on). There are
bits of Room 25 here, and a lot of Pandemic in the way your
spaceship gradually gets damaged; there's some The Captain is Dead
too in the resource cards you collect to fix various problems. I
mostly hung around in the workshop to fix bits of the ship other
people couldn't reach. Definitely enjoyable, but I wouldn't seek it
out to play it again.
And finally a few rounds of
The Crew: The Quest for Planet
Nine,
where we're now 21 missions in and I still need to take notes.
