I went over to a friend's place for boardgames.
We started with Godzilla: Tokyo
Clash,
with no credited designers. (I will not buy a board game that does not
acknowledge the people who designed it. "Prospero Hall" is just a
house name.)
That said, the game is pretty decent; you gain energy by destroying
Tokyo, then spend it to play cards, while victory points come from
attacking your rival monsters which usually means spending energy, so
there's an initial tradeoff of tactics. I also got something of the
feel of Sakura Arms, moving between attacking and defensive modes
and working out what to do with each hand of cards. Interesting.
We went on to
Lemminge
(Sebastian Bleasdale) with
my physical copy – it feels quite different from the game on Yucata,
particularly the way that the collection of dead piles happens
automatically there. Still great fun though. I can see that this is a
relatively simple game, but I still think it should be better-known.
