GURPS Space Atlas: Grissom 15 April 2023

Even more stuff by me that you can buy! Unless you have it already.

I mentioned this back in July of 2021, when it was part of the GURPS 2021 PDF Kickstarter, but in case you missed that it's now available as a stand-alone PDF. (I didn't realise this had happened until someone recently told me.) It is published as a GURPS book, but because GURPS uses real-world units (if US Customary rather than SI) there's only one stat in it that you'd need GURPS to understand.

In fact it's purely a setting (plus adventure and campaign ideas) rather than rules - a world that's been isolated from "mainstream" interstellar civilisation for hundreds of years, but has recently been recontacted. Its own culture has developed in specific ways during that time of isolation: some of those ways will help outsiders, some will hinder them, some will just confuse them.

This is in support of a style of space game I particularly enjoy: what matters is not that the people you interact with are tough or unfriendly, but that their culture is not your culture, and your core job is sorting out those points of agreement and disagreement rather than blowing them into glowing bits. (A certain amount of that too, of course.)

I have ideas about developing this space atlas idea further, with more worlds in a loose cluster, and how they interact, ultimately producing a whole region of space as a partwork. I haven't done anything about it, mind…
