This Meetup-based
boardgames group continues…
First game of the evening was
Ominoes, which
is vulnerable to luck, but straightforwardly honest about it, and I
think this raises it in my favour. Yeah, sometimes you'll have a 50/50
chance of winning the game and twice in a row it won't happen, but
there's nothing hidden, you can see what's happening, blame dice luck
and move on.

New to me Skyjo:
the cards are ten runs of -2 to +12, and you start with a 4×3 tableau
face down in front of you. On your turn you can take the top of the
discard and swap it with a tableau card (leaving the new one face up);
or draw from the deck, and either swap it with a tableau card (leaving
the new one face up) or discard it and turn a card face up.

So far so luck-based, but if you manage to construct a column of three
matching cards, you can discard all of them. Once someone has all
their cards face-up, the game ends, and card values are penalty
points.

It's very simple and I wouldn't pay much for it, but it's quick to
teach and quite fun.
Finally, Dixit, in
which none of us could remember the scoring rules, but we had a good
time anyway.
