This Meetup-based
boardgames group continues at the Marlow Donkey.
Another play of In the Name of
Odin, and I
don't love it any more than I did last time (see linked post), but the
owner of this copy likes it a great deal. It doesn't get anything
egregiously wrong, but when you see your set of cards at the start of
each turn it's pretty clear what you should do with them, because your
options will be to do one thing well and perhaps a second thing
half-heartedly.
"Unlike the man to my left, I am a peaceful trading Viking. You can
tell from my hand-axe."
There's no tempo to the game, though: the things you do at the end are
basically the things you do at the beginning, only perhaps with a bit
more mitigation available.
Honestly I'd rather have red/blue/black tokens, but as far as I can
tell even the retail version came with the miniatures.
Make the most of those second half-hearted actions, and you may well
find you win—as I did this time, by knocking off the last available
raid before anyone else had a chance at it.
