1962 shoft science fiction, dir. Chris Marker, Davos Hanich, Hélène Châtelain:
IMDb /
allmovie. After the war, a
man is sent back to his memories of the past.
Well, sort of. The director regarded it as a remake of Vertigo.
And apart from a very few moments, this is all done with the camera
travelling across still photos.
What it doesn't really have is a coherent plot: man dimly remembers
witnessing a traumatic event as a boy, after the war time travels
using that as an anchor, and eventually discovers that his death as an
adult time traveller was that event. But that's it. He doesn't even
have a name. It's all about the atmosphere.
There are people who are great fans of this, and I did enjoy it, but
I'm not convinced it's possible to be an enthusiast both for this and
for films with more conventional plot ahd character and such.
I talk about this film further on
Ribbon of Memes.
