2024 romance. Celeste St. Pierre is an art thief; so is Magnus
Larsson. They used to run with a crew, until five years ago things
went bad, Magnus bailed, and the crew fell apart. Now their mentor has
died, and had one last wish…
Parts of this are thoroughly workaday. Cool criminals globetrot
in order to fulfil dead boss's last instructions (somewhat to my
surprise, it turns out that she actually is dead, even though this
all needed to be timed to within a few days). Celeste and Magnus used
to be an item, spent the intervening time despising each other, and
of course promptly hop back into bed anyway (with a fair bit of
detail, and some very mild kink).
But the actually interesting bit is how the mutual antagonism gets
unwound as the lead couple are finally brought to talk to each other.
Is that enough to carry the book? Not really. But I did finish it and
enjoy it.
Not an author I'll hunt for again, but if this book touches specific
points you want in a romance it's a surprisingly good choice.
