2000 horror, dir. John Fawcett, Emily Perkins, Katharine Isabelle:

allmovie. Puberty is hell.
Unfortunately that's the main thing this film has to say, it says
is quite early, and then it keeps saying it.
This might be trying to be a black comedy in the vein of Heathers
(Mimi Rogers as Mom does a solid job pushing it in that direction).
But the leads' problems are real to them even before the supernatural
angle kicks in, and I don't want to laugh at them.
The young stars, Emily Perkins and Katharine Isabelle, are great; they
were also both rather more experienced as actors than the director and
writers were at their jobs (one prior feature film, one TV episode,
respectively). In particular there's very little progress through the
bulk of the film; once Ginger has been turned, there's an emotional
dynamic established between the two which carries on essentially
unchanged until just before the final scene. With sufficient
repetition, the most interesting things can drag.
Puberty is horrifying. Sibling loyalty has its limits. OK. Right. Got
it.
I talk about this film further on
