Wolvercote Games, November 2025 03 November 2025

The Oxford Meeples had another quarterly games day, and I had a great time again. (Yes, I've missed a few.)

First game of the day was Tinderblox: Storm Edition which adds "rain" cubes. Is it the best Tinderblox? Probably not. Do I need it? No. Do I enjoy it? Certainly.

Then on to Terraforming Mars: The Dice Game with the new "Missions" expansion, picked up at Essen. This is quite a low-complexity expansion and I think I'll probably include it in future games, even with new players; it provides several more options especially when the right cards aren't coming up.

Another Essen purchase, Map Masters (in cooperative mode). The impression we got was that it wasn't offiensive, but there was a lot of fiddly setup for a fairly trivial mission. Still, this was the recomended Mission 1; I think I'll try it solo, and with a more advancd mission. (And in competitive mode.)

More Essen plunder, the trick-taker Diamonds, which seems to make sense to me in a way that most trick-takers don't. I think it may be because playing out of suit, if one has no cards of the led suit for a trick, can be actively helpful.

Finally Flip 7, new to several of the players, which did its job very well: enough randomness that one can blame the bad stuff on the cards, even though a better player will generally beat a worse one. (And five out of the seven players had the top score in at least one of the ten rounds.)
