The vast majority of translation programs need a network connection.
This one doesn't.
This is Offline
Translator (or
just "Translator"), available from F-Droid. (I have no idea whether
Google Play has it.) Its feature list is more or less "yes"; it will
translate entered text or copied and pasted ditto, it can apparently
work in an overlay mode to translate text from other programs (I
haven't tried this), and it has decent OCR too. For example here's a
photo I took on last year's Essen trip.
I haul that into Translator, and it makes a guess at the region it
should try to translate.
I box in what I want, and hit "OK".
And the result is dropped onto the image.
Obviously this is not perfect! I can work out roughly what
Jägerschnitzel is, but it doesn't know and I don't either what
Gypsy Sauce might be. Claw salad? My guess is that it read "Kraut" as
"Kralle" or something like that. And "Pils/Old pasta" runs together an
item on the right with the next line on the left. (The first of the
three buttons lets one flip back and forth between translation and
original.)
But no data connection needed, and no leaking data for AI training or
other purposes.
