2021 romantic fantasy short stories, eight scenes before and after the
events of Eclipse.
This is a bonus for readers of the novel; no word count is wasted
on introducing people, and it's best read while memories of those
characters are still fresh. There are some key moments in the lives of
Isambard and Thesan before they met, a Remembrance Sunday with
Isambard and Thesan's brother, and an interview for a new teacher at
which they're both present. None of these casts the events of the book
in a new light—indeed, one could reconstruct at least the outline of
the earlier ones from the references to them in the book—and nor does
the last introduce new challenges for the future, but I enjoy reading
Lake's prose and it's pleasing to revisit the characters and the world
I've liked before.
